Our quick thoughts on Thursday's results:
Richmond 60, Dayton 56. Could this be the result that finally forces some fellow bracketologists to move away from a five-bid A-10 projection? The Flyers actually led for most of the game before faltering in the closing minutes and losing 60-56. They shot a dismal 34% from the field and leading scorer Chris Wright was held to just six points on 1-of-7 shooting. Dayton (who would have been in our Friday bracket with a win) has now lost four in a row on the road, and will only finish 9-7 in conference if they are able to defeat Saint Louis this weekend. After that, if they can get to the A-10 semis, they will but themselves back into serious discussion, while a trip to the A-10 final will put them in good shape for a bid. Richmond will close out the regular season at Charlotte this weekend. It would likely take a run to the A-10 final for the Spiders to climb higher than where they currently are on the 7 line.
Of note: Ashton Gibbs hit a 30-footer at the buzzer to give Pitt a crazy 73-71 win over Providence at home (the Panthers secured a double-bye in the Big East tourney with the win); Michigan State held on for a 67-65 win against Penn State at home; Washington won at Oregon; Mississippi beat LSU at home; Arizona State beat USC at home; Seton Hall won at Rutgers.
