B101's Monday Tweets

Our quick thoughts on Monday's results:

Kevin Durant was rooting on his alma mater from behind the Texas bench on Monday night, but for the first time in a while, the Longhorns didn't need any extra help. Led by Jordan Hamilton, who scored a season-high 27 points, and Damion James, who added 14, Texas got back on track with a convincing 72-60 win at Oklahoma State. The Cowboys had been unbeaten at Gallagher-Iba Arena coming into the game and they raced out to a double-digit lead early, but Texas came storming back and outscored Oklahoma State by 16 after halftime. Next up for the Longhorns is a game at Oklahoma this weekend. If they win and get some help, they might be able to sneak back on the 2 line next week. Oklahoma State plays at Texas Tech on Saturday, and they'll need a win to avoid falling out of next week's bracket. A loss would be their third straight overall and would drop them 4-5 in conference, with games at Texas, at Texas A&M, and at home against Kansas and Baylor still left on the schedule.

Anyone who is tired of hearing all the talk about UConn being on the bubble has to be thrilled with Monday's results. The free-falling Huskies got blown out by 13 at Louisville to drop to 3-6 in the Big East, 0-5 on the road, and completely off our crowded bubble list. With the win, the Cardinals climbed back over .500 in Big East play and guaranteed themselves a spot in next week's bubble discussion. Louisville was very balanced on offense, with 10 players scoring and four scoring in double figures. They were also able to put this game away early, which was key given all the troubles they have had closing teams out. We took a long look at Louisville for the bracket this week, but we couldn't get past the fact that they have no marquee wins and no OOC resume. If they are able to pick up a win over lowly Rutgers this weekend, they will likely be one the most debated teams for us next Sunday for the bracket.

Of note: Kent State beat Northern Illinois at home; Morgan State won at North Carolina A&T; Texas Southern won at Alabama A&M.

Kansas State expended a lot of energy and emotion in that Kansas game. Will they come out flat and lose a trap game against Nebraska?

It's no secret how tough it is to win on the road in the Big XII, but we still like the Wildcats in a close one tonight.

can 2 conference teams play each other in the 1st round? Joe Lunardi has Pitt facing UConn in a 5-12 game. I thought the committee tried to avoid pitting two teams from the same conference in the first round.

That "lowly" Rutgers team you just bashed beat Notre Dame( a team that b101 had in the bracket a couple weeks back). Notre Dame played a very easy non conference schedule and had absolutely no business in the bracket.

I believe (you all correct me here if I'm wrong) that not only can UCONN and PITT not play each other in the opening round, but no two teams from the same conference can be in the same half of a bracket (or sub-region if you will) -- Exception for a league with more than 8 teams in the bracket. With Lunardi showing just 7 BE teams in, it's a major no-no.

I just answered this in the Field of 65 comments...

You are right, conference teams can't meet until the elite eight, unless there are more than eight teams from that conference, and even then they cannot meet in the first round. He has already fixed this.
